Our Approach to Board Recruitment

At Big Break Foundation, our mission is to build a more inclusive, diverse, and accessible location based experience industry. That commitment begins with us — in how we lead, how we make decisions, and who sits at the table.

As we open applications for our Board of Directors, we want to be clear about our process, our goals, and the values guiding every step.

 

Our Goal

We’re building a Board that reflects the richness of our industry and the communities we serve — across experience, background, identity, and perspective.

We recognize that while we can’t control who chooses to apply, we can take intentional steps to invite a broad, diverse, and qualified range of voices into the conversation.

 

Our Guiding Principles

Our recruitment process is grounded in four core commitments:

  • Transparency – We openly share how our process works, from outreach to selection.

  • Inclusivity – We proactively invite participation from underrepresented voices across the industry and beyond.

  • Accountability – We use our Mission and Values as our touchstone. This process is rolled into our reports and documentation to further challenge and elevate our collective goals for our organization.

  • Representation – We strive for a Board that mirrors the diversity we envision for our industry. 

 

How We’ll Recruit

We’re casting a wide net to ensure every qualified voice has a chance to be heard.

  • Targeted Outreach: We’ll connect directly with professionals, affinity groups, and organizations representing a wide spectrum of lived experiences.

  • Open Applications: Our simplified Board application will be available publicly through our website and shared across industry networks, newsletters, and partner platforms.

  • Collaborative Partnerships: We’ll work with our partners, alumni, and advocates to extend this invitation even further.

  • Equitable Board Roles & Structures: At Big Break Foundation, we believe opportunity should never hinge on career level or industry tenure. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds to explore board roles that spark their interest. While some positions may require specific skills, we’re committed to providing mentorship and support—ensuring each role strengthens both the organization and the individual who steps into it.

How We’ll Review Applications

Every application will be reviewed consistently and fairly.

  • Step 1: Initial Review – Applications are reviewed to ensure completion and alignment with our mission.

  • Step 2: Evaluation – A standardized rubric helps assess experience, values alignment, and how each applicant contributes to a diverse, well-rounded Board.

  • Step 3: Selection – Discussions and decisions are documented to ensure clarity and fairness.
     

Our Accountability

After each recruitment cycle, Big Break Foundation will share a short summary highlighting:

  • The number of applications received

  • How we reached applicants

  • General representation metrics (without personal identifiers)

  • What we learned and how we’ll improve next time
     

This helps ensure our community can see our progress and hold us accountable to our values.

 

Our Long-Term Vision

Big Break Foundation aims to set the standard for inclusive governance across the themed-entertainment industry.

By leading transparently and learning publicly, we hope to model what intentional, equitable board recruitment can look like for others.
