Hi! I'm Marissa, and I'm a Black, Haitian-American NYC-born and based writer and director that creates vortexes via an [Afro]surreal framework, often in dialogue with kinetics and landscape dramaturgy.
I looking to bring my storytelling expertise from the stage to storytelling in themed entertainment.
I'm propelled by writing and projects that: call upon heightened reality, embracing the off and the unhinged, teeter between potential and kinetic energy, that have prolonged and speedy encounters. She’s interested in travel and motion, and different realms of reality and portals, tangible and intangible. Let's suspend ourselves in states full of wonder and curiosity…
Award/Honors: Princess Grace Playwriting Award, Yale Drama Series Prize Shortlist (selected by Pulitzer Prize-winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins), MacDowell Fellow, three-time O’Neill NPC Finalist. Memberships + Affiliations: The Kilroys, EST/Youngblood, Lucille Lortel Alcove, The New Georges Jam. I was a member of Clubbed Thumb's Early-Career Writers Group, Roundabout’s Directors Group, a Finalist for The National Black Theatre's I AM SOUL Playwrights Residency, and a Mercury Store Lead Artist.
As a playwright, my work has been supported by The Vineyard, The National Black Theatre, New Dramatists, Clubbed Thumb, The Bushwick Starr, Ars Nova, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Lucille Lortel, Exponential Festival, Chautauqua Theater Company, CATCH Performance Series, The Workshop Theater, The Orchard Project, Moxie Arts, and more.
As a director, I have directed and assistant directed the development of new work of playwrights and of myself through productions and workshops with The Vineyard, The National Black Theatre, BAM, New Dramatists, Brown University, Exponential Festival, Synecdoche Works, Mercury Store, Conch Shell Productions, The Brick Theater, SFX Festival, Breaking & Entering Theatre Collective, NYU/Tisch, and more.
